Island Bridges Offenbach
Offenbach, 2012 - 2015
Transport infrastructure buildings
Offenbach harbour opens up to the west towards Frankfurt and affords a spectacular view of Frankfurt’s skyline. And even following its transformation into a new urban district, the harbour basin has still retained the genus loci of the place. It is the harbour basin, the proximity to water and the far-reaching views that also form the basis of the successful landscaping design. The planning of two new bridges should not ruin the parameters that dictate the quality of this location.
The bridge design is essentially determined by the idea of a structure that is both inconspicuous and memorable. A "paper-thin" bridge creates an ostensibly obvious connection between the "Island" and the mainland. Here it is not the design as such that hogs the limelight, but pure and precise engineering.
Together with Schüßler-Plan.
