SÖR Operations Headquarters

Office/administration buildings Competition
Conspicuously inconspicuousWithin the urban context, the new headquarters for SÖR (Servicebetrieb Öffentlicher Raum: public space service operations) makes its mark. In a self-confident gesture, yet without being intrusive, the administration building pushes right up to the road frontage, its height emphasising the importance of this city-run concern. The basic building arrangement is – inevitably – derived from the operations and various functions within. Clearly delineated halls facilitate in-house orientation and the elevated block structure can be read on the outside of the building. The elevations of the administration building open and close like plumage: their busy surface structure forming a marked contrast to the calmer, more functional halls that house vehicles and storage. People above, transport below: this guiding principle generates unambiguous spatial volumes. In the competition, schneider+schumacher received a commendation for their design.
