Industrial buildings Competition
Water, one of the four elements, is one of the most important prerequisites of life. Without water we cannot exist and in contrast to mineral oil it is neither replaceable nor dispensable. The idea that water ensures life for every living organism formed the basis for our design. Reminiscent of a water droplet the shell of the building gently rests within its surrounding landscape.
A competition requirement was to design a shell which could be built from simple, equal, pre-fabricated concrete panels. We chose the shape of a torus segment (a doughnut). The torus is a basic form, since its geometry can be determined by only two parameters: the diameter of the tube, and the overall diameter of the ring.
