Town Hall Ingelheim

Ingelheim, 2011
Office/administration buildings
Competition

A town hall symbolises a solid and a well-organised structure, worthy of public respect. Our aim is to enhance this image. The assembly hall and entrance area should, in their new guise, be visible from all sides. As a whole, the new buildings are intended to evoke the classical agora, a central place of cultural and political debate. For this reason they are all set on a common plinth, giving the impression of an architectural ensemble.

The three new buildings – a hall for cultural use, a further-education centre and a music school are both visually and practically separate entities. Each has its own entrance and foyer on the Gartenfeldstrasse. However, when necessary they can be linked via the naturally lit service hall along the length of the plinth at the rear. A new underground car park connects into this tract.
