The new Reinhard Ernst Museum is destined to add another impressive building to Wiesbaden’s cultural axis. The founder Reinhard Ernst has long had an ambition to make the works he has collected over the years accessible to the public. This gave rise to a concrete plan: to build and operate a museum at his own expense. The focus of the collection is on abstract art and the museum will be open to the public from 2022. The Pritzker Prize winning architect Fumihiko Maki designed the museum, and schneider+schumacher Bau- und Projektmanagement GmbH is responsible for the project implementation.
A fully glazed entrance hall and open atrium creates a bright and welcoming interior. Typically, high ceilings and a large amount of wall area characterize exhibition areas, offering plenty of space for large-format works in particular, with a total floor area of some 2,000 square metres.
