Workshop for handicapped
Mülheim a.d. Ruhr, 1998 - 2002
Social housing
The Theodor Fliedner Foundation runs workshops for the handicapped amongst other social facilities. Work there is recognised for its professionalism and of high quality.
All aspects of this building – shape, structure, facade and fit-out – are specifically designed to achieve an expression of utmost clarity and precision. As well as being a building that meets the usual functional and efficiency criteria for the 120 handicapped workers – as the brief required -, it was especially designed with the aim to avoid stigmatising them. The elegant foyer stands in deliberate contrast with the decidedly functional production hall.
