Cantate Hall receives State of Hesse Listed Building Prize
The listed Cantate Hall from the 1950s, now part of the Goethehöfe in Frankfurt am Main, has been placed third in the 2020 State of Hesse Listed Building Prize. The jury was of the opinion that, “this venue, which stems from the great Frankfurt era of Nitribitt and kidney-shaped tables, still embodies the spirit of progress of post-war reconstruction.” schneider+schumacher Bau- und Projektmanagement GmbH was responsible for project phases 5-9, while the initial phases were supervised by Landes und Partner. The client is ABG FRANKFURT HOLDING.
Modernizing the out-dated technology of the Cantate Hall required radical intervention in the original fabric of the aging theatre. This entailed comprehensive renovation work, adapting the design to the existing building. It also involved working closely – and successfully – with the Office for the Protection of Historical Monuments, and consulting with them, among other things, on colours, wall and floor coverings, and chair covers. Particular importance was attached to restoring the original spatial layout of the lower foyer, where the column cladding has been faithfully reproduced. The harmonious colour scheme for the Cantate Hall, based on the architects Landes und Partner’s concept, was coordinated in great detail between schneider+schumacher’s Bau- und Projektmanagement GmbH team, the client ABG FRANKFURT HOLDING, and the Office for the Preservation of Monuments and Sites. It encourages future visitors both to linger and listen.
