BDA's Nike for Innovations goes to Städel Museum
20.06.2013 - Awards
The extension of the Frankfurt Städel Museum was awarded with the demanded "Nike" of the BDA in the category Innovations.
"The so-called ‘Garden Halls’ wing enriches the Städel Museum with architecture that is innovative, formal, functional and ecologically sound. Externally, it subordinates itself to the surrounding townscape, shunning the general trend towards spectacular stand-alone structures, yet it does so without compromising its own identity. And right up to the ceiling, this completely neutral hall offers optimal conditions for presenting contemporary art, in spite of its subterranean location."
(Laudation: Dr Roman Hollenstein).
