Foundation stone laid at Rheinpfalz police headquarters
Work on the structural shell of the new Rheinpfalz police headquarters in Ludwigshafen is already in full swing after a symbolic laying of the foundation stone in September. When complete, the building complex will bring together several police stations at a publicly accessible central location, so that in future some 650 police employees will work together under one roof. wulf architekten is both designing and executing the project, while schneider+schumacher is responsible for tendering, awarding contracts, and supervising the construction project on-site. It is due to be completed in 2027.
The architects wulf architekten have deigned a building in two parts: the taller of the two structures with twelve storeys is 44 metres high, and the other offset tower of eight storeys is 29 metres high. Landscaping around the building will be designed to tie into the city’s urban fabric.
The concept of sustainability is crucial to the new police headquarters. Concrete with partially recycled content will be employed during the construction phase, and flat roofs will be greened. Moreover, there is a clear focus on e-mobility: with a view to more long-term development the scheme incorporates 20 charging points plus a fast-charging station for cars, and ten more for e-bikes.
