Our latest book, fresh off the press…
Just in time for the World Heritage Festival at the Mathildenhöhe, our new book ‘Transforming Mathildenhöhe: A World Heritage Site – The Refurbishment of the Exhibition Hall’ by schneider+schumacher‘ was published by Jovis Verlag in mid-September. The book (approx.170 pages) covers both the history and renovation of this unique Art Nouveau monument. It elucidates the spatial and design challenges faced when dealing with the building and its historic building fabric, and provides technical details on climatic control and exhibition spaces. In addition, it describes the negotiating process with the listed building authorities as well as working with the UNESCO Commission since, in the course of the project, the artists’ colony became a designated World Heritage Site.
The richly illustrated volume documents the exhibition building through historical and contemporary photographs and includes contributions by Darmstadt’s Lord Mayor Hanno Benz, his predecessor Jochen Partsch, the former Head of Cultural Affairs Ludger Hünnekens, the Director of the Mathildenhöhe Institute Philipp Gutbrod, the architecture critic Falk Jäger, as well as Astrid Wuttke and Till Schneider from schneider+schumacher.
The book (€38.00) can be ordered (in German or English) from the Jovis Verlag website, where you can also preview the book
