Timber construction prize “prohessen 2024”

01.10.2024 - Notes

The roof structure hovering over the Frankfurt bus terminal has been recognized as an architecturally extremely appealing timber construction and as such it has received a special prize in the Small+Fine category of the “prohessen 2024” Timber Construction Award. Out of the more than 100 submissions, just three projects were awarded a prize and three others received a special prize. The award ceremony took place in late September as part of the Timber Construction Congress in Kassel.

The prize was awarded under the patronage of the Hessian Ministry of Agriculture and the Environment, Viticulture, Forestry, Hunting and Homeland as well as pro holzbau hessen, in cooperation with the partners of the Holzbauoffensive Hessen. State Secretary Daniel Köfer presented the prizes to the architectural firms and their clients. The roof designed by schneider+schumacher for CA Immo consists of a sustainable timber structure based on parallelograms constructed of cross-laminated timber elements, supported on precast spun concrete columns. The 22 inverted “umbrellas” form a multi-faceted construction of surfaces and edges. Four spotlights mounted in a ring on each support serve to underline the complexity of the geometric structure after dark.
