Architecture Day in Hessen

27.05.2024 - Notes

With the Café Restaurant Mathildenhöhe and the new roof at the Frankfurt bus terminal, schneider+schumacher is participating in this year’s Architecture Day, organised annually by the Chambers of Architects. During the last weekend in June, 29 & 30 June, these two projects can be visited alongside some 80 other projects from all over Hessen.

Mathildenhöhe has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2021. The Café Restaurant Mathildenhöhe offers modern gastronomy in the heart of the listed building. It is located in the valve chamber of the former drinking-water reservoir. The water reservoir dates back to 1879, making it one of the oldest buildings on the Mathildenhöhe – and the brick walls, valve wheels and water pipes have been incorporated into the furnishings. Joseph Maria Olbrich was commissioned by Ernst Ludwig von Hessen to construct the exhibition building above this former water reservoir in 1908. We are offering two guided tours, each for 25 people on Saturday, 29 June at 10:30 and again at 12 noon. To register please contact: pr@schneider-schumacher.de

At Frankfurt’s main bus terminal, a new roof in the form of 22 elements made of inverted ‘umbrellas’ creates a multi-faceted construction. From a bird’s-eye view, the 68.8m long and 11.6m wide roof is covered in greenery. The roof consists of a sustainable timber structure supported by prefabricated spun concrete columns. Four spotlights are mounted in a ring on each support, underscoring the complexity of the geometric structure at night. We will be elucidating our project on site on Sunday, 30 June from 11:00 to 14:00

We look forward to seeing you there!
