IHK Pfalz: new building
The foundation stone for the new IHK Pfalz building in Ludwigshafen was laid in mid-March. The building, designed by schneider+schumacher as a compact structure, fits in perfectly with the two different sides of the site and blends in with the heterogeneous characteristics of the existing buildings. Behind a folded, generously glazed façade, spaces for contemporary, sustainable and inspiring working and training environments will be created by 2026.
The new building on Ludwigsplatz will house the IHK Pfalz and its training centre, which is currently located in Bahnhofstrasse. The new building will offer work space for around 150 employees over some 7500 square metres, as well as around 860 seminar spaces and event rooms. Great importance was attached to sustainability, particularly in the choice of materials, the technical equipment and the building’s use of energy. The project is being built in a joint venture between Implenia Hochbau GmbH and HEBERGER Hoch-, Tief- und Ingenieurbau GmbH. The excavation pit has already been dug and the concrete foundation partially poured. The new building is being constructed on the site of the old building, which – after careful examination – had to be demolished.
Together, they also buried a time capsule during the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone. Present at the ceremony were (from left to right): Jürgen Vogel (IHK), Ludwigshafen’s Lord Mayor Jutta Steinruck, Christian Hildenbrand (HEBERGER), Minister of Economic Affairs Daniela Schmitt, Christian Simons (schneider+schumacher) and IHK President Albrecht Hornbach.
