Groundbreaking ceremony in Klagenfurt

The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony was held under colourful umbrellas in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee in mid-December to mark the start of construction of the Lakeside Living III project. Teams from the developer Riedergarten Immobilien, and planning architects schneider+schumacher Vienna were present on site, as well as other participants in the project plus political representatives from the city. The residential construction project represents the third construction phase of the “Lakeside Living” neighbourhood on Lake Wörthersee and comprises 168 modern apartments and four commercial spaces. Rental agreements have already been signed with a pharmacy and a kindergarten, according to Riedergarten Immobilien.

Four years ago, the design by the Viennese branch of schneider+schumacher won the architectural competition for the project. Seen from the street, two eight-storey blocks mark the entrance to the site. Their slightly offset arrangement creates a flowing sequence of open spaces that underlines the high residential quality of the neighbourhood. Behind these blocks the urban plan proposes a linear, seven-storey terrace building – its volume acoustically shielding the entire residential area from the railway line to the south. All three buildings are predominantly orientated south-west, giving the upper storeys a spectacular view of the Karawanken hills and Lake Wörthersee.
