High Rise Cinema at Frankfurt’s Parks Department

Frankfurt’s Parks Department designed by schneider+schumacher is one of four “High Rise Cinema” locations that will be luring audiences to Frankfurt’s rooftops this summer. At the festival on 11, 12 & 13 August, organised by LICHTER Filmkultur, movies will be shown against the city’s skyline backdrop on the Parks Department barrier-free-accessible roof terrace. One classic and two contemporary films will be screened: “Léon – Der Profi”, plus “Elvis” and “Wunderschön”. Entry is from 7:30pm, but screening only begins when it is sufficiently dark.

This extremely narrow plot of land lying alongside Frankfurt’s main railway station tracks was long considered too difficult to build on. However since 2015 it has served as the headquarters of Frankfurt’s Parks and Office for Road Construction and Development Department, with a total of 460 employees. Now, for the first time, workshops and administration are united under one roof. In terms of urban development, the 220-metre-long building effectively terminates the Gallus district, blocking it from the railway tracks. There is a rhythmical structure to its curved façade.

“High Rise Cinema” starts on 21 July, screening open-air cinema from Thursday to Saturday until 13 August. There will be further screenings at the OpernTurm, the Taunus Tower and the Skyline Plaza. More information: www.highrisecinema.de
