Zeros and ones at the world’s first highrise data center
schneider+schumacher, in collaboration with facade experts Cima, have created a dynamic façade for Qianhai Telecommunication Center, as illustrated in these videos recently received from China. When complete, the whole façade will symbolise the universal number Pi, broken down into binary components of zero and one, with zero components moving when blown by the wind. Inspired by the building’s technical remit, the façade is a lively and interactive presence for passers by.
Foundation work has just been completed on the project designed by schneider+schumacher. It will be the world’s first highrise data center. The building will ultimately reach a height of approximately 100 metres and will house some 3.800 mainframe computers. It is due for completion in 2024.
